Sayadaw U Dhammasami was born in Burma in 1965. He became a monk in his teens. He is in his forties now, though he looks much younger. He got his initial training in the Mahasi-tradition, then he learned at other schools too. He became a Dharma teacher in Burma. He went to graduate school to England, where he earned his PhD on Philosophy. He has been teaching vipassana for more than 30 years in Asia, United States and Europe. He is the founder and leader of the Buddha Vihara Buddhist monastery in Oxford, England. He is also the president of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, and guest lecturer at the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok, Thailand.
